A Late-Night Message
At approximately 10:00 PM on March 2, 2026, Founder and Executive Director Jesse Moore received a Facebook message from another rescuer about a dog that had been abandoned on a stranger's front porch as temperatures dropped into the twenties.
The dog was frightened, exhausted, and had nowhere else to go.
Within minutes, plans were already being made to get him somewhere safe.
None of us knew then how much this one dog would change the future of Helping Paws Project.
Meeting Willy
The dog we would later name Willy was in rough shape.
His skin was inflamed, much of his hair was gone, his body was covered in dirt, and he was clearly uncomfortable.
Even though he was nervous and untrusting, we were able to get him off the streets.
Healing Begins
Willy immediately began treatment.
Over the next several weeks he received daily ivermectin for mange, baths, supplements, and lots of love.
Little by little, the dog hidden beneath the mange began to emerge.
His coat started growing back, his eyes became brighter, and his personality slowly came to life.

A New Opportunity
As Willy recovered physically, it became clear that he deserved every opportunity to succeed in his future home.
That's when an incredible community partner stepped forward.
Peak Dog Training generously donated an entire Tier 2 residency program to help Willy build confidence, learn important life skills, and prepare for adoption.
Finding Himself
Over the following weeks, Willy continued to blossom.
The scared dog who once arrived covered in mange became playful, confident, and full of personality.
Watching him discover how to simply enjoy being a dog was one of the most rewarding parts of his journey.
Finding His Family
Sometimes the right family appears exactly when they're supposed to.
Through a connection made by his trainer, Willy met Madelynn.
It didn't take long to realize they were meant for one another, or as I like to say, obsessed with each other.
The Life He Always Deserved
Today Willy spends his days doing what every dog deserves to do. Being loved, playing, learning, sleeping on a warm bed, living as a cherished member of a family that adores him.
Willy’s story didn't end with rescue.
It began with it.
Why Willy's Story Matters
Willy wasn't saved because of one person, he was saved because a community came together.
A rescuer refused to ignore a dog in need, someone opened their home, veterinary care gave him a chance to heal, trainer donated weeks of professional rehabilitation, n adopter opened her heart.
Every person made the next chapter possible.
