Hi, I’m jesse.
I believe that the answer isn't building more shelters or creating more rescues.
I believe that it's building stronger partnerships and providing the resources that help existing organizations, and the animals they serve.
A Different Vision for Animal Welfare
I founded Helping Paws Project after years of witnessing the same heartbreaking pattern repeat itself. Time and time again, animals weren't suffering because people didn't care—they were suffering because the resources simply weren't available when they were needed most.
Throughout my career in animal control, I have worked with countless abandoned, neglected, injured, and medically complex animals. I have seen incredible rescues, dedicated shelters, compassionate veterinarians, and selfless volunteers working tirelessly every day. Yet even the most committed organizations are often forced to make impossible decisions because funding, medical care, or specialized resources just aren't available.
Rather than creating another organization that competes for those limited resources, I envisioned one that helps strengthen the entire animal welfare community.
Helping Paws Project was created to fill those gaps.
Building Partnerships, Not Competition
I believe the greatest impact happens when organizations work together.
Helping Paws Project exists to support shelters, rescues, veterinarians, trainers, businesses, and community members who all share one common goal: giving animals a second chance.
Whether that means funding emergency medical care, helping medically complex animals become adoptable, assisting other rescues with difficult cases, or expanding access to preventative veterinary care, our mission is to provide the resources that help everyone succeed together.
Every partnership we build has the potential to save more lives than any one organization could accomplish alone.
The work started long before the organization
Long before Helping Paws Project became a nonprofit, helping animals was simply something I couldn't walk away from.
It started with volunteering my time to transport rescue animals across the state (sometimes into other states), spending entire days on the road so a dog could make it from one shelter to another, from a foster home to a rescue, or from danger to safety. As time went on, those transports became medical cases, emergency fosters, abandoned animals, and even coordinating flights through Pilots N Paws to give dogs opportunities they otherwise wouldn't have had.
I've never been very good at saying "no" when an animal needs help. There have been countless times when I had no idea how I was going to solve the problem—I just knew I couldn't ignore it.
