Pake & Reba
Even old dogs deserve a new start.

On June 15th, 2026, two senior dogs were found hot, exhausted, and confused in the middle of nowhere. Someone from a neighboring county noted that they knew the owner and thought that they had been dumped.
Pake, a yellow lab, was estimated to be 12-14 years old. Pake was absolutely infested with fleas causing hair loss, skin irritation, and inflammation. Pake was also deaf, had a double ear infection, and was having a hard time walking.
Reba, a border collie mix, is 10 years old. Reba was overweight, also had flea dermatitis, and had raspy breathing that caused a cough.
On June 16th, Abby Sanches of Styles and Smiles Grooming graciously offered to bathe Reba and Pake. The next morning, Pake’s skin was much less inflamed and he was actually walking better.
On June 18th, Abby’s grandmother took on the role of fostering Reba and Pake so that they could be more comfortable. The two settled in quick as if they owned the place.
Pake and Reba are still in foster today. We are still trying to get to the bottom of Reba’s respiratory issues but they are both safe and happy. Currently, Pake and Reba have had $1400 in vet care and it will only go up from here.
Pake and Reba are available for foster to adopt, but they must go together. They love other dogs and are good with children, but Reba likes cats in a bad way.
On June 17th, Dr. Robyn Kurtz spent hours evaluating Pake and Reba. Dr. Kurtz completed senior blood panels, ear cleanings, and provided steroids and antibiotics for both dogs. Reba required additional testing, such as chest XRays and a urine test to try to determine the cause of her respiratory issues.
Pake was diagnosed anemic from the amount of fleas that he had in addition to a skin infection from the long term irritation.
